Here you will find information about starting Karate at one of the NWKA clubs

Q. What do I get when joining the NWKA?

A. With the joining fee you get a karate suit, belt, badge and full 12 months insurance.
This joining fee covers all NWKA clubs and enables you to take part in courses within the North West Karate Academy (NWKA), Karate Do Federation (KDF) and the English Karate Federation (EKF).

Q. How do I join a NWKA club?

A. Simply come along to see us on a club night and ask to see the instructor he will be happy to talk to you and you can watch a training session once you have an idea of what it is all about then the instructor will give you joining details and you can start your first class.

Q. What age do you teach?

A. Within our club we have members of both sexes from the ages of six to over sixty years.

Q. What do I need to wear?

A. For your first few lessons all you need is some loose fitting clothing such as a track suit, shorts and t-shirt. Once you are confident karate is for you then you can buy a karate suit from the club. You dont need to buy a suit, it is part of the membership.

Q. Will I get injured

A. All classes are strictly controlled to minimize the risk of injury so that there is no more risk of injury practicing this art than playing many other sports such as football or hockey.

Q. Am I fit enough to learn?

A. If you are in good health it should be possible to learn.  If you have any disabilities and are unsure then check with the instructor and your doctor. Whether you regard yourself as fit or not the beginners courses are structured towards enjoyable learning at an easy pace giving progressive fitness development.
