What?

Pad work ( Makiwara ) is great for practicing striking skills at full power with out injuring training partners.

Focusing body and mind together to bring out the most powerful and effective technique possible to the individual.

Who?

Pad Work is practiced by both senior and junior members in the clubs, it is a core practice of our training syllabus.

How?

Children's techniques are limited to knee / elbow strikes and kicks, this is due to their body structures not being developed enough as an adult to cope with punches etc, performing such techniques at full power could damage there hands, joints and muscle tissue etc.

Techniques range form round kicks to hook kicks, hammer fists to elbow strikes. There are also many variations on each technique to practice.

Please visit our Syllabus page for Pad work ( Makiwara) requirements for each belt. Remember, just because a certain technique or variation isn't included in the syllabus, doesn't mean it's not part of your training, or part of Karate, or that we don't recognise it as a ligitimate Karate move. Find what works for you!
